On November 6, the Department of Public Instruction updated their document, “Interim COVID-19 Infection Control and Mitigation Measures for Schools“, to include the following information (document pgs 13-14):
- The playing of wind instruments indoors is not recommended by DHS. The use of bell covers to mitigate risk of dispersing respiratory droplets is not supported due to lack of published research. It should be noted that aerosols can be emitted from instrument keyholes, in addition to their bells. As more research is published DPI will work with DHS to re-evaluate guidance and recommendations.
- The use of masks with slits for playing wind instruments is not recommended by DHS and. are not allowed under Emergency Order #1.
